Health & Safety Awards:

These awards will highlight and celebrate the role of health and safety professionals in a range of manufacturing industries as the ‘unsung hero’ of the workplace, recognising and rewarding individuals who have gone the extra mile to create a safer working environment.

 

This is your opportunity to promote the excellent work carried out by you or the Health and Safety professional in your manufacturing facility and to provide recognition.

 

All entrants will receive free entry to the premier European H & S exhibition, A+A Safety, Security & Health at Work International Trade Fair in Düsseldorf, Germany. These will be provided in September.

 

Three national winners will be selected and recognised at a European Event on 19 October in Dusseldorf, Germany. Return flights to Dusseldorf and accommodation for the evening will be offered by KIMBERLY-CLARK PROFESSIONAL*. National winners will also receive an Amazon Gift Certificate for € 200 (or the local currency equivalent).

Who Can Enter?

Entries can be submitted by Health and Safety professionals or their colleagues/employers in the United Kingdom, Germany, France and the Czech Republic. You do not have to be a customer of KIMBERLY-CLARK PROFESSIONAL* to enter.

Neal Stone, Director of Policy and Research, British Safety Council

Neal Stone leads the British Safety Council’s ‘Think Tank’ and communications teams. Central to the work of Neal’s team is engagement with key players critical to the effective management of health and safety including our member organisations, government, the regulator, other health and safety organisations, trade unions and trade associations and communicating the contribution that the British Safety Council and member organizations are making to the sensible and effective management of health, safety and the environment.

Neal joined the British Safety Council in May 2008 as Head of Policy and Public Affairs with responsibility for developing the organisation’s policies, leading its research on major health and safety issues and representing the organisation in its dealing with Government, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), other health and safety bodies, employer organisations, trade unions and other key stakeholders. Neal has recently spoken and written on a number of major issues including Lord Young’s review of health and safety, the HSE Strategy, director leadership, worker involvement, worker compensation, the accreditation and regulation of health and safety practitioners, the country’s health and safety performance and represented the British Safety Council on various external health and safety forum.

Prior to joining the British Safety Council Neal worked for HSE from 1992-2008. From 2005-2007 he was the policy adviser to the Chair of the HSC, Sir Bill Callaghan, and Commission Members. From 2001-2005 Neal led HSE’s worker involvement and business involvement programmes including HSE’s policy lead on director responsibility for and the management of health and safety, employer liability insurance, worker involvement including the worker safety adviser initiative.

 

Catherine Beardwell, Beardwell Consulting

Catherine has been a health and safety professional for 20 years.

The first ten years of her career were spent as one of HM Inspectors of Health & Safety with HSE. Catherine was an operational Inspector, working in manufacturing, construction and agriculture.

Since HSE, Catherine has worked as a health and safety advisor in the nuclear industry, then latterly as a consultant. Her aim is to enable businesses to be self-sufficient in health and safety management by providing practical management systems support and effective training. She works with clients in construction, transport, defence, engineering and government. Catherine has been involved in the delivery of behavioural safety programmes to improve culture in large organisations; she’s also conducted research to establish the effectiveness of such interventions.

Catherine is a trainer at NEBOSH Certificate and Diploma level, an NVQ assessor, and is an examiner for NEBOSH and the British Safety Council.
